TROY Thomas F. Long, 93, of Lansingburgh passed away Thursday May 11, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness. Born and educated in Poughkeepsie he was the son of the late James and Nellie Flynn Long and husband for 71 years of Blanche Millington Long.
Tom was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II with the 4th Marine Division, JASCO, in Iwo-Jima from which he received the Purple Heart. He retired from Dairylea Milk Co. as a driver after 32 years and then retired from Uncle Sam Pipe Co. after 25 years as a driver.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Blanche Millington Long, his loving children Ellen Premo (Gary) of Waterford, Susan Casey of Waterford, Joan Shepard (Bob) of Watervliet, and Thomas C. Long (Suzanne) of Averill Park. Also surviving are his adored grandchildren, Kelly Denvir of Waterford, Gary Premo of Lansingburgh, Michael Casey (Jamie) of Waterford, Jack and Ryan Long of Averill Park, Brian Shepard of Watervliet, Alicia Wilson (Eric) of Menands and his loving great grandchildren, Michael, Jacob and Mason Casey, Liam and Brayden Denvir all of Waterford and Declan Wilson of Menands. He is predeceased by his grandson Peter A. Casey. He is the brother of Barbara Allen of Lake Luzerne, Jane Rapisarda of Florida, Robert Palmer (Donna), of Queensbury the late James and Betty Long. He is the brother in law of Bill and Helen Millington of Lansingburgh. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Troy.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 pm.
