WATERFORD Shirley H. McCarthy, 82, of Saratoga Ave. died Thursday October 26, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born and educated in Waterford she was a lifelong resident and was the daughter of the late Lloyd A. and Myrtle E. Sandercox Bull.

Shirley had been a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program in Waterford for which she won an award in 1991. She was an avid gardener and her flower garden won the 1980 Beautification Award from the Greater Troy Chamber of Commerce. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford and had been a volunteer at Waterford Rural Cemetery.

Shirley will be remembered by family and friends for her generosity and love for others.

She was the widow of Leo McCarthy who died in 2008. She is the loving mother of Leo Francis McCarthy, Amy Susan McCarthy and Tara Lee Jacon (late: Michael) all of Waterford. She is the sister of Elizabeth Doin of East Greenbush, Dorothy McIntyre of Mechanicville, the late Earl, Robert, Raymond, Warren and Gerald Bull, Marjorie Roberts, Phyllis Patrick and Gloria Fonda. She is the proud grandmother of Katie Dearstyne (Tyler) and Kevin McCarthy (Jessica) and great grandmother of Landon Bova, Xander McCarthy, Charlotte Dearstyne and Benjamin McCarthy. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive as well as her dear friends, Kathryn Boyd and Donna Connelly.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford and at 9:30 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-7 pm.
