Obituary for Howard Swatling Jr.

Howard  Swatling Jr.
WATERFORD Howard M. Swatling Jr., 89, of Middletown Rd. died Sunday December 10, 2017 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Addison VT he was the son of the late Howard M. Swatling Sr. and Olga Nipko Swatling. He was a 1944 graduate of Waterford High School and 1950 graduate of Embry Riddle School of Aviation.

Howard was employed at General Electric in Scotia as an aircraft and engine mechanic and then Page Airways as a flight instructor and service manager until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served with the Pacific Division of the Air Transport Command. Upon the 100 year celebration of aviation in 2003 Howard was presented with the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing the organ, traveling and camping, puzzles, gardening, and bird watching. He was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia McLenithan Swatling, his devoted children, David N. Swatling of the Netherlands, Donald K. Swatling (Cheri) of Oakland, CA, Steven H. Swatling (late Jody) of Strong, ME, Kathleen A. Pierce (William) of Clifton Park. He is the brother of Neal Swatling (late Loretta) of Waterford, Jane Peluso (late Rocco) of Mechanicville, Warren Swatling (Marion) of Clifton Park, Sandra Arlund (late Peter) of Lantana, FL, Judith Doten (Herbert) of Stillwater, Sally Doten (Gene) of Latham, Glenn Swatling (Janet) of Mechanicville, the late Leonard Swatling (Mary Lou) and Jerry Swatling (Janet). 5 Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will be at Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday at 2 pm.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm prior to the service.
