Obituary for John Sokolowski

John  Sokolowski
COHOES John F. Sokolowski, 91, of Vliet Blvd. died peacefully April 2, 2018 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center. Born and educated in Cohoes, he was the son of the late William and Rose Rymanowski Sokolowski.

John was a lifelong Cohoes resident and a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Cohoes. He proudly served his country during WWII as a Sergeant in the US Army. He worked for Al Tech Specialty Steel (formerly Allegheny Ludlum Steel) for 35 years until his retirement in 1985.

John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Navojoskey Sokolowski, and by his two children Diane M. (Mark) Normandin and Frank J. (Irene) Sokolowski of Halfmoon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason and Lauren Sokololowski as well as several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his six siblings Frank and Agnes Sokolowski, Mary Noradki, Josephine Rybaltowski and Joseph and Stella Sokolowski.

John was an avid gardener with a special place in his heart for animals and nature.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford and 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow with military honors at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

John's family wishes to thank the staff at The Eddy Courtyard and Activities department for their compassion and care.
