Ernest "Ernie" Gaudette
COHOES Ernest J. Gaudette, 91, of No. Reservoir St. died peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital. Born and educated in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Gedeon and Eugenie Lanthier Gaudette.
Ernest had been employed for 40 years at Bilinski’s Meat Packing in Cohoes until his retirement in 1993. Prior to that he served in the US Navy on the USS John Ireland which sailed to Russia during WWII. He was a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh and the Troy VFW. He was an honorary life member of the Troy Lodge of Elks #141, the chairman of their Bingo Committee and was named Elk of the Year in 1992. Ernest was also a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Cohoes and an avid bocce player at the East Side Senior Citizens.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Hallett Gaudette and by his children, Michael E. (Kathleen) Gaudette and Susan L. (Dale) Russell all of Cohoes, David J. (Angela) Gaudette of Mechanicville and Mary Beth (Jeffrey) Keegan of Pleasantdale. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric (Annamaria), Laura (Anthony), Lauren, Dale, Timothy (Miranda), Julie (Lance), 5 great grandchildren, his sister in law, Janet Sanders as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Franklin, Leo, Joseph and Raymond Gaudette, Loretta Charbonneau, Auxulia Martel, Lorraine Mador and Irene Gaudette.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12:15 p.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford and at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m.
