Port Richey, FL Donald J. Durocher 81 died Saturday April 14, 2018. Born in Waterford he was the son of the late Doria and Bertha Robitaille Durocher. He attended the former St. Anne’s School in Waterford and was a 1955 graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy.
Don entered state service upon graduation from high school and rose through the ranks to become Supervisor in the Cost Accounting Section of the New York Thruway Authority retiring in 1991.
Don had an extensive military career having entered the NY National Guard while a student at La Salle. He completed his 8 year obligation and then transferred to the NY Army National Guard where he remained until his retirement due to illness in 1991. He served as Detachment Clerk, Supply Sgt., Senior Intel Sgt. and attained the rank of Sgt. Major E9. He attended many military schools and academies during his career and was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations.
Don is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Assoc., a member of the National American Legion Post #1 in Washington DC and a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 since 1982.
He is survived by his loving and longtime companion Olga Somers, his children Marguerite Blais (Gerard), Paul Durocher and Brenda Vautrin (Roger). He is also survived by Thomas R. Somers. He is brother of the late Elizabeth Tomaski, Shirley St. Gelais, Elaine White, Robert, Raymond and Francis Durocher. 9 Grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive..
Funeral from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church Waterford.
Interment with military honors will follow at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
