Joan "Miss Joan" Cunningham
WATERFORD Joan Ann “Miss Joan” Cunningham, 88, formerly of Waterford and more recently of Lakeland, Florida died Sunday July 15, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Albany she was educated in schools there and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn Casmere DeMeur.
Joan was a waitress having been employed at the Lobster Pound in Latham, Michael’s Banquet House in Latham and Scot Mar Restaurant in Waterford. She was an avid crocheter and maintained a booth in Auburndale Florida where she sold her beautiful creations. She served as Queen Mother of the Red Hatters for several years. She enjoyed vacationing at Saratoga and Cossayuna Lakes, spending time at both the Harness and Flat tracks in Saratoga as well as playing Bingo.
She was the widow of Robert Cunningham Sr. and was the mother of Robert Cunningham Jr. (Kathleen) of Valley Falls, Karen Clickner (Frederick) of Lakeland, FL, Lori Manny (Tom) of Waterford, Pamela O’Brien (Terry) of Saratoga Springs, Heidi Cunningham of Las Vegas, NV, the late Kimberly Franze and Alison Smith. She was the sister of Joseph DeMeur (William Sullivan) of Clifton Park and lifelong friend of Beverly Pach of Menands and Sue Jenkins of Clifton Park. Also surviving are 10 Grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as her feline friend Holly.
Funeral services will be Thursday at noon at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 am – noon, prior to the funeral service.
