Obituary for John J. Normandin

John J.  Normandin
WATERFORD John Joseph Normandin, 90, a lifelong resident of Waterford died peacefully at Diamond Hill Rehabilitation Center, Troy on January 28, 2017. Mr. Normandin was born July 25, 1926 to the late Earl and Lucy (Heroux) Normandin. His loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Jean Normandin (Mousseau) preceded him in death in 1998. He is also preceded in death by his brother Earl Normandin Jr. and his two sisters; Mary Thompson and Elaine Thompson.

He is survived by four sons; Robert (Rhonda) Normandin of Durham, NC; Richard (Beth) Normandin of Saratoga; Russell (Mary) Normandin of Waterford; Ronald (Kathleen) Normandin of Halfmoon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Robert Normandin Jr. (Bree) of Hendersonville, NC, Angelique Nelson (Gabe) of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Normandin of Albany, Nicholas Normandin of Saratoga, Hanna and Kyle Normandin of Waterford, Tara Carmody (William) of East Atlantic Beach, Kaylin Willimott (Joshua) of Waterford and Alanna Normandin of Halfmoon. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Waterford High School in 1944, Mr. Normandin joined the US Navy and served with the SeaBees stationed in the Pacific on the island of Guam. After returning home at the end of World War II, he went to work at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna where he retired after over forty years of service. John and Shirley spent the remaining years traveling and spending their winters in New Port Richey, FL.

John was very active during his life, playing golf and bowling in the old Camp’s Grill in Waterford. He also enjoyed camping and boating in the Adirondacks and on Cape Cod, MA with friends and family. He was a diehard NY Giants and NY Yankees fan.

Funeral from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford Friday at 12:30 pm and at 1 pm at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday form 11 am-12:30pm.
