Obituary

COHOES Dawn Taylor Witecki, 56, of Remsen St. died Tuesday February 26, 2019. Born in Albany she was the daughter of the late Frank Taylor and Jane (Kelly) Wilson.

Dawn was a talented singer and musician, a masterful baseball coach, a brilliant writer, a loving sister, mother and grandmother. Those that knew her or knew of her will surely attest to the fact that she packed as much of what life has to offer in her 56 years on earth as anyone could hope to. At the age of 9, she began to question life’s meaning and purpose, and her pursuit of answers led her to places some of us wouldn’t dare tread. Dawn leaves behind a wealth of unpublished music and memoirs, which we will preserve and eventually release to the world. Dawn’s love of children and passion for their growth could be felt by all those she came into contact with, be they her nieces and nephews, her ballplayers in the Niskayuna little league or the children of her friends and lovers.

Dawn fought a 3 year battle with cancer that was expected to last less than one. Her drive and perseverance through extensive chemotherapy, radiation, experimental immunotherapy, experimental radiation injections and the bevy of drugs used to combat the side effects is a testament to her strength and will. That level and of fight and drive was how Dawn approached many aspects of her life. She suffered through tormenting darkness, but always managed to come back to the light with that strength.

She is the proud grandmother of Ocean Francis Witecki, the loving mother of Henry Witecki and devoted sister of Betty Jane Bellmar, Bonnie Ashley, Brian Taylor, Jim and Joe Kelly, Pam Johnson, Pam Taylor, Sissy Kelly, William Taylor and the late Jackie Taylor. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Friday evening at 7 pm at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday prior to service from 4-7 pm

All the childhood memories we shared, toast with peanut butter, jelly and hot chocolate, your favor breakfast when you came to visit. The times we spent at each other's house. My mom your second mom and your mom my second mom. Watching the ice capades and roller skating at guptals. Then meeting up with you again, my senior year of high school, having fun at the harness track. Going to your mom's wedding when she married Jim. So so many memories. It's hard to let you go, a part of me was always with you as a part of you will always be with me. We were more than friends, we were more like twins considering you are just a month and 13 days younger than me. But yet you taught me more than words could express. Rest peacefully in heaven, till we meet again. Love you with all my heart
